Midday with New Dimensions – The Great Chicago Fire
The Great Chicago Fire of 1871, presented by Sheree Fukai at the Mesa County Central Library, 443 N. 6th Street, at noon, on Thursday, February 12. Sheree is a retired engineer who lived most of her life in the “Windy City” leading to a deep interest in its unique history.
Fire raged through Chicago, Illinois, for three days in October of 1871. Roughly 3.3 square miles of the city was destroyed, leaving over 100,000 residents homeless.
Did Mrs. O’Leary’s cow really kick over the lantern? Sheree Fukai will tell the story of Chicago before the fire, how the fire started, why it was so devastating, and life in Chicago after the fire.
Midday with New Dimensions is a partnership between Mesa County Libraries and New Dimensions Lifelong Learning, offering free public lectures. Seating is first come, first served.
