Hiking

March 12 @ 8:45 am - 12:30 pm
We have been in Devil’s Canyon several times. Normally we hike on the canyon floor.  This time we will take to the sky where the D5 trail  climbs a hill to the west and follows a course that leads around the rims of all of the lower canyons overlooking the D4 and D6 trails.   You will get wonderful vistas of the Mcinnis Canyon around, the book cliffs to the North, sky above, and the canyon floor below.  You will finally get a good view of what makes up the ever-watching, 🦆 “duck rock”. 🦆   This climb will take you about 200 feet vertical elevation to get up to the canyon rim and traverse around 4 miles.  Our hike may take a little longer than we usually trek, around 2.5 hours.
Meet in Fruita at the Dinosaur Journey, East side at 0845.  We will carpool to the Devil’s Canyon parking area.  Thursday morning will be somewhat cool, in the upper 40’s and low 50’s, almost perfect weather for this hike.  Sunny weather is expected.  Afterwards, Munchies?
